The field guide Astrology, carefully explained
Why birth time matters
A birth date gives only part of a chart. A reliable time and place locate the sky against your local horizon; uncertainty in either input limits what the chart can say.

Which chart details depend on time?
A birth chart represents the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets at a moment. The ascendant is the point where the ecliptic intersects the eastern horizon for a particular time and place; the rising sign is the sign containing that point. Houses organize positions relative to that horizon using a chosen house system. Their calculation needs a usable birth time and location. The rising sign names the zodiac sector containing the ascendant; it is not another planet. Tropical zodiac signs are defined sectors of the ecliptic, not identical to their namesake constellations. Encyclopaedia Britannica · Zodiac

Same birthday, different information
Imagine two people born on the same date in different places or at different times. Sharing a birthday does not imply sharing an eastern horizon or the same house layout. Without calculating from their actual records, we cannot name either person’s rising sign, house placements or degrees. Astrodienst · Why birth time matters
When the recorded time is missing
Check a reliable birth record if available, and record the local clock time as written. Then check the historical time zone and daylight-saving rules for the birthplace. Do not present a noon placeholder as a known birth time. Date-based positions may still be explored with appropriate uncertainty, but the ascendant and time-dependent houses should remain unconfirmed. A house-system choice can also change house boundaries. An unknown birth time can also leave the Moon’s position—and any placement near a sign boundary—uncertain. A noon chart is a placeholder, not evidence that those placements are confirmed.
Jehana calculates planetary positions with a Moshier-based JavaScript ephemeris and Placidus houses separately where input and geometry permit; this does not guarantee a precise or available house result. A symbolic interpretation is not a scientifically established personality or future prediction. See how to read a birth chart, then compare a daily horoscope with personalized transits.

A practical next step
Put the ideas beside a chart.
A calculated placement is a starting point for reflection, not a verdict about your life. If the birth time is uncertain, mark the ascendant and houses as uncertain rather than filling in a convenient time.
